Born in Rockville, Maryland, Leah DeFreitas has been a member of The Hawk Talk staff for three years. After serving as a Staff Reporter and Community Editor, Leah is currently a senior and In-Depth Editor. She placed top 3 in VHSL Bylined Personal Opinion for her article, “Racist Halloween Costumes Reinforce Stereotypes.” Outside of newspaper, Leah is co-captain of the Varsity Dance Team, founder of the VegClub and actively involved in the animal rights movement. Inspired by food journalism and documentary film, Leah can often be seen at a local food festival, global market or in the kitchen, whipping up vegan dishes influenced by her Brazilian or Jewish heritage.
