Madison’s Varsity Football team faced off against a familiar opponent, the Westfield Bulldogs, on Saturday, Nov. 24. Both teams played through the treacherous conditions at Westfield High School, as freezing rain fell steadily throughout the whole game. Despite a 7-0 lead at halftime, the Warhawks ultimately fell to the Bulldogs, 17-7, giving Westfield their fifth straight region title.

Brandon Walker (’19) scored Madison’s only touchdown in the first quarter, putting the Warhawks on the board with a 22-yard run. Madison struggled in the second half, unable to secure a first down. Westfield, however, came out stronger after halftime. Senior Eugene Asante scored two touchdowns for the bulldogs in the second half, accounting for most of their points.

The conditions evidently affected the performance of both teams. Despite the freezing rain, fans filled the stands for both schools. Warhawk Nation showed up to Westfield in full support for what ended up being the final game for the football players in the Class of 2019. Madison Varsity Football has had a record of 39-11 in the four years since these athletes were freshmen.
