Madison’s softball has collected a large sum of trophies over the years, ultimately showing their continuous success. The team and coaching staff’s victories have empowered these athletes to win three state championships since 2017.
In 2022, the team celebrated a huge victory when they won their ninth state championship in program history—their third state championship since 2017. The year 2022 was a record year for this team as the team also won the Concorde District and 6D North Region tournaments. This was the 15th time in the program’s history. All of these recent championship victories (2017, 2018, and 2022) were under the coaching of Jim Adkins who has been with the team for 11 years.
“I think we have been successful because our coaching staff is very talented and does a really good job of using our strengths and improving our weaknesses,” Grace Marshall (’26) said. “We also put in a lot of work and a lot of practice as a team, and it all ends up paying off.”
The team practices six days a week for three long hours. These practices are full of warmups, drills, hitting and more. This difficult practice schedule began before the athletes even made the team. Marshall tried to train every single day previous to making varsity and even played with some of the other girls who made the team at the same time as her. Johanna Hostetler (’25) also trained vigorously before making the team, consistently training three days a week.
“I would start with a warmup and then go into drills,” Hostetler said.
So far this year the team has played in one scrimmage against Robinson. According to Marshall, it started off a little rocky, but they ended up winning 5-3. This is just the start to an amazing upcoming season the Warhawks will have.
“If we put in a lot of work and spend time correcting ourselves, I think we will have a very successful season!” Marshall said.
