It’s a problem. A big one at that. The hallways at Madison are way too congested each passing period. Specifically, the hallway between the English and Social Studies classrooms is ridden with traffic and simply too crowded between periods. Top speeds may not even reach that of a snail and may be up there with 5:30 p.m. traffic on Church Street.
The main hallway during the first week of school is always a pain to get through. Freshmen are still learning how to navigate the halls and do not necessarily know the art of traveling through the side hallways. But this year, it has been a different story. Weeks into the school year, traffic jams still occur between each period on the main intersection. It is just too slow and can be causing people to be late to classes.
Why is this happening right now? It may be that the phone policy has influenced students to be attached to their phones in the hallways, creating distracted walkers. Maybe the freshmen class is the problem, as they could still be checking StudentVUE for their room numbers. Or possibly, it’s as simple as Madison suffering from a slow walker epidemic.
“The freshmen are way too slow,” Maximo Dominguez (’26) said. “It’s way worse than last year, too many clumps of people.”
We need reform. Madison needs to fix this kerfuffle. Should there be a week-long course for freshmen in P.E. class to learn to walk properly? Maybe the whole school needs this education. Does Madison need to expand as the student body expands? Whatever the solution may be, it needs to happen fast. If the traffic in the hallways continues, it will be a long year for the Warhawks.
