Tysons Corner Mall, a hub for shopping, entertainment and more for surrounding high schools is currently in the process of redevelopment, and is planned to be completed by March 2025. The renovations will be mainly concentrated to the east end of the shopping mall, including new flooring, ceiling designs, lighting and art. Lower-level bathroom renovations near the food court will also occur and are planned to be finished by the end of November.
Tysons Corner Mall has been the core spot for Vienna, McLean, Falls Church and other town shoppers since its opening in 1968. Since then, Tysons has grown exponentially and students have seen the growth of the area as a whole. With modern buildings, metro lines, the shopping mall and the Galleria, it should come as no surprise that Tyson’s businesses are always looking for ways to develop more advanced and attractive features.
Considering the makeover of the east end, several businesses have been permanently closed or relocated for the new renovations. The biggest and most abrupt change was the removal of Barnes & Noble. Retailer Old Navy was relocated to the opposite end of the mall and the Mexican Restaurant, La Sandia, was permanently closed.
“I don’t love it,” AJ Murray (’26) said. “I just don’t think it is a positive change for the mall.”
The big new attraction taking the occupancy of the east end, and previously Barnes & Noble, will be Level99, a modern social gaming playground that is aimed to attract all ages, but primarily the youth. It will contain over 50 mental, physical and skill based challenges and, according to other locations, a food and bar area. Level99 is looking to be completed in the spring of 2025 making it the new attraction for the mall come summertime.
Some regular mall-goers or avid readers may be disappointed to see the new attraction, but it will have a much larger draw to kids and teenagers in the area wanting to be competitive in futuristic games. Taking into account this new establishment that is targeting the younger generation, Tysons Corner Mall could have similar renovations in the near future as well.
