As the weather grows colder and the holiday season approaches, students often turn to music to connect with their feelings. Whether it’s through a heartwrenching song that makes a listener feel seen or a jolly tune that can lift the spirits of all who hear it, holiday music is the perfect way to engage with the festive season. We interviewed students about their top holiday songs, and here are some of their favorites:
White Christmas – Bing Crosby
“This song really encompasses the spirit of the holidays,” Jack Lockard (’27) said. “Everyone is always wishing for snow on Christmas, even though it is very unlikely in this area.”
All I Want For Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey
“This is my favorite Christmas song because it is the first song that I have heard a lot, and it’s one of the most popular songs in English and Korean so I listen to both versions,” Irene Seo (’27) said.
Carol of the Bells – Pentatonix
“I like how it has a nice fast rhythm,” Michael Neyland (’29) said.
Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah – Jack Black
“It does a good job of describing Hanukkah all in one song and it’s very catchy,” Katelyn Strug (’27) said.
“Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” – Vaughn Monroe
“It’s the first holiday song I ever learned, so it brings a sense of nostalgia,” Ishaan Pandya (’27) said.
