The past three weeks of the March Madness basketball tournament were anything but predictable, as this year’s tournament resulted in a high number of upsets and fierce games. The tournament concluded with the No. 1 seed Michigan Wolverines defeating the No. 2 seed UConn Huskies in a close game with the final score being 69-63. Although the score remained close Michigan made it clear from the start that they were the stronger team, especially in key moments throughout the game.
Early rounds saw a huge number of upsets, with several double-digit ranked teams destroying brackets early on. Some of the most notable upsets were No. 12 seed High Point University defeating No. 5 seed Wisconsin and No. 11 seed VCU over No. 6 seed North Carolina. Many top basketball programs like Duke, Houston and Michigan were tested from the start, proving that no team is ever truly safe.
The Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rounds featured many fast-paced, high-pressure, buzzer-beater games. Fans were glued to the action from the tip-off to the final buzzer. These rounds resulted in some of the biggest upsets and bracket busters from the tournament, including No. 1 seed Duke’s 73-72 loss to No. 2 seed UConn on a last second 3-pointer by UConn.
Overall, this year’s March Madness showcased the intensity, excitement and chaos that comes with the tournament every year. Even without an unexpected Cinderella team making it to the Final Four, it was still proven that once the games begin, rankings mean very little.
