Damar Hamlin suffers life-threatening injury

In Week 17 of the NFL season, The Buffalo Bills faced the Cincinnati Bengals away at Paycor Stadium. The Bengals were leading the Bills 7-3 with around 6 minutes left in the first quarter, but after what seemed like a normal collision between Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins and Bills safety Damar Hamlin, the game turned for the worse. Hamlin is seen getting up after the hit, but shortly after collapsing to the ground. Independent medical personnel and local paramedics administered CPR and restored Hamlin’s heartbeat before he was taken from the field in an ambulance to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The game was delayed in wake of Hamlin’s injury and later canceled because of the concern of Hamlin’s health. Viewers around the country and at the stadium held their breath for any news on Hamlin’s condition. As the night went on little to no news came out. The support for Hamlin was all over social media as the football community waited. Hamlins toy drive charity was blown up with donations from fans, coaches, and other players from around the league. Since the injury over 8 million dollars have been donated to the cause which he plans to use to support young people through education and sports. After a couple days Hamlin was finally awake after having to be resuscitated twice and when he woke up he asked the doctor if his team won the game. The doctor replied, “The answer is yes, Damar, you won. You’ve won the game of life.”

Since, he has been released from the hospital and was in attendance to the Bills vs Bengals rematch in the playoffs. Safe to say the entire world is grateful for the immediate actions of the medical field staff and hospital workers. The only thing left to speculate is if Hamlin will make a return to the gridiron.
